Behind the designs…

Rachel is a Yorkshire based photographer/ designer who uses her photojournalistic eye to capture moments from the natural world so that they are never forgotten. The images produced highlight both the plight and success of some of the red and amber listed species close to home.

Bernie and Blue is a small luxury brand named after my two rehabilitated racehorses, that aims to assist in the conservation of endangered species by being a vehicle to educate the public and celebrate some of the successful conservation projects carried out by Britain’s farmers, game keepers and landowners.

Bernie and Blue produce nature inspired designs to enhance your outfits as well as promoting and supporting conservation. All products are 100% silk, handmade and finished in Great Britain. Only the silk travels from beyond our coastline. The original designs are printed, and scarves produced, at a factory in Evesham, the ties are manufactured in Tunbridge Wells using the printed silk fabric and our gift boxes are made in North Chailey.

History…

The Natural world, in all its aspects, have always been Rachel’s passion.

Early studies in textiles and photography provided her with a foundation for developing an understanding of both design and technology; to capture the original photographs that lead the inspiration for the designs. She enjoys linking her photographic skills with her designing to celebrate nature in the Yorkshire Dales.

A subsequent degree in agriculture has given her a different perspective on the rural landscape. Alongside her businesses, Rachel also lectures in agriculture, educating the future generations on the importance of conserving the land we utilise, for our descendants.

She seeks inspiration mainly from moorland and coastal areas, wild open places where nature is raw and beautiful.

Rachel’s interest in wildlife and its characteristics have played a significant part in the development of her recent work, which reflects images inspired by the forms, textures and patterns that describe and express the interface between man and nature.

Rachel is based in the Yorkshire Dales and can be contacted via the contact form.
